- Screen for children who may have asthma but have not been diagnosed as having asthma.
- Encourage parents/ guardians to communicate information regarding children with asthma.
- Maintain medical records including current asthma status, current asthma medication and details of treating physicians.
- Ensure staff who would have children with asthma in their care have the necessary skills and knowledge to care for children with asthma.
- Ensure the essential resources and expertise are available to handle emergency care if needed.
- Ensure partnerships with parents, guardians, teachers in charge of sports activities school’s medical centers/sick rooms, physicians in the care of children with asthma.
- Communicate with parents /guardian regarding children with asthma if asthma is resulting in absence from school or preventing child from participating in school activities.
- Ensure all children with asthma have their own asthma action plan given to them by their treating physicians.
- Ensure children with asthma have access to emergency care and are able to take their reliever medication if needed.
- Ensure that children with asthma have the necessary skills and the staff is able to assist children if and when they need to take their emergency reliever medication.
- Make all efforts to ensure a school environment that is free of factors that could trigger asthma attacks.
- Incorporate education about asthma into school educational activities.
